What is Holy Spirit?

God promised through the prophets that He would pour out the Holy Spirit on His believers to live in their hearts: “And I will put my Spirit in you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them” (Ezek 36:27).

The Bible tells us that “God is Spirit” (Jn 4:24). The Bible also says, “the Lord is the Spirit” (2 Cor 3:17). The Spirit of God is the Spirit of Jesus Christ; He is the Holy Spirit.

Who is the Holy Spirit?

The Bible presents seemingly mixed messages about the Holy Spirit. On the one hand, it teaches us to worship God in spirit and in truth for He is Spirit ( Jn 4:24); on the other hand, it says that the natural man cannot perceive the things of God’s Spirit (1 Cor 2:14). In truth, attempting to understand matters of the spiritual realm can be difficult. It can be likened to peering into a dimly lit mirror, and it is inevitable that some things will elude us for the time being. Nevertheless, God has provided some important insights to those who love Him and who have received His Spirit (Rom 8:5ff; 1 Cor 2:12ff). Moreover, we can take heart in the knowledge that one day we shall behold the complete and perfect picture (1 Cor 13:12).
